Fried Placed on IL with Elbow Bone Bruise; Yankees Confirm Ligament Intact
New York Yankees pitcher Max Fried landed on the injured list after an MRI confirmed a bone bruise in his left elbow. The imaging revealed no ligament damage, offering a positive outlook following his early exit from a game against the Baltimore Orioles.
New York Yankees pitcher Max Fried exited Wednesday's game against the Baltimore Orioles after three innings, later diagnosed with left elbow posterior soreness. Fried subsequently underwent an MRI on Thursday, May 13, which revealed a bone bruise in his left elbow.
ESPN's Jeff Passan reported on May 15 that the MRI results indicated no significant ligament damage. Dr. Neal ElAttrache will review the imaging. Fried has been placed on the Yankees' injured list.
During his May 13 appearance against the Orioles, Fried threw 61 pitches. He surrendered five hits and three runs while recording two strikeouts over three innings. The Yankees did not score during his time on the mound.
Fried signed an eight-year, $218 million contract with the Yankees prior to the previous season, committing him to the team through his age-38 season. He is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent in 2039. The Yankees currently hold a 27-16 record, placing them second in the AL East and second in the American League standings.
