Citrus County Animal Services Announces Free Pet Adoptions This Weekend
CITRUS COUNTY, FL – Citrus County Animal Services (CCAS) is hosting a special “Clear the Shelters” event this weekend, offering free adoptions for all available dogs and cats. The initiative aims to find loving homes for the many animals currently residing at the shelter, located at 4030 S. Airport Rd. in Inverness.
The adoption event will run from Friday, April 18, through Sunday, April 20, 2026, during regular shelter hours. All standard adoption procedures will still apply, including a required application, a brief interview process, and a home visit to ensure a good match between the pet and its new family. All animals available for adoption are spayed or neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on their vaccinations.
“Our shelter is currently at capacity, and we are hoping this event will encourage more residents to consider adopting a pet,” said a CCAS representative. “Every animal deserves a loving home, and we have so many wonderful dogs and cats just waiting to become a part of someone’s family.”
Community members from Inverness, Crystal River, and surrounding neighborhoods are encouraged to visit the shelter this weekend to meet the adoptable animals. Potential adopters can view available pets online through the Citrus County Animal Services website before visiting. Staff and volunteers will be on hand to assist with the adoption process and answer any questions.
This free adoption weekend is a critical effort to reduce the number of homeless animals in Citrus County and to create space for incoming animals. Residents who are unable to adopt are still encouraged to support CCAS through volunteering or donating.
