MOUNT PLEASANT, Wis. — Taiwan-based Foxconn, known globally as Hon Hai Technology Group and a major Apple supplier, announced a $569 million expansion at its Wisconn Valley Science and Technology Park in Mount Pleasant on Wednesday. The investment will create 1,374 jobs through December 2029, focusing on artificial intelligence infrastructure, data servers, cabling, networking, cooling and power systems to meet surging U.S. demand.[1][3] Under a modified state contract, Foxconn now commits to 2,616 total jobs and $1.2 billion in capital investments by year's end 2029.[1]
As of December 31, 2024, Foxconn had invested nearly $717 million in the 914-acre campus and employed 1,242 workers, qualifying for $62.9 million in Wisconsin Economic Development Corp. tax credits.[1][3] The site, once heralded for a $10 billion display panel factory promising 13,000 jobs by 2020, shifted to data infrastructure and electric vehicle components after scaling back amid market changes. Today, over 1,000 employees produce data servers, positioning Racine County — Wisconsin's largest taxpayer in Foxconn — as a hub for next-generation tech.[2][5]
The expansion dovetails with Foxconn's November 20 collaboration with OpenAI, which shares AI hardware insights to guide U.S. manufacturing designs without financial commitments.[1][3] OpenAI gains early access to prototype systems with purchase options, bolstering domestic supply chains amid national priorities for AI independence. Local leaders, including Village of Mount Pleasant officials, hail Foxconn as a vital partner driving economic stakes in southeast Wisconsin.[2]
