Fort Lauderdale Water Rescue: What We Know So Far
A woman was pulled from the water in cardiac arrest off Fort Lauderdale and taken to Holy Cross Health, according to WSVN. This is what we know so far about the developing emergency.
According to WSVN, Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue crews responded after reports that the woman had gone missing in the water. Rescuers found her underwater, performed CPR and then transported her to the hospital.
Witnesses and detectives told WSVN the woman had removed her life vest and either fell or jumped from a Yamaha personal watercraft before she failed to resurface. Officials said she was located and taken to the hospital after being found underwater in cardiac arrest.
As of the latest reporting, investigators had not identified the woman and had not said how long she had been underwater. Officials also had not released an update on her condition by late Thursday night, according to WSVN.
The response involved Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue and paramedics, indicating a rapid rescue and advanced medical response to a life-threatening water emergency. The fact that CPR was performed at the scene suggests rescuers found the victim in critical condition before transport.
Dispatch records show one similar cardiac arrest incident in Broward County in the past six months.
The investigation remains active as officials work to identify the woman and determine exactly how she entered the water and why she did not resurface.
Day.News will continue to update this story as officials release more information.
