Fort Lauderdale Beach Water Rescue: What We Know So Far
A girl, her father and a Good Samaritan were taken to Broward Health Medical Center after a water rescue off Fort Lauderdale Beach, according to officials and news reports. Here is what we know so far.
Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue said it responded to 911 calls reporting a drowning in the Atlantic Ocean near the B Ocean Resort around 7:20 p.m., according to WSVN 7News and city officials. A juvenile girl was found struggling in the water and rescued by Fort Lauderdale Ocean Rescue personnel, according to FOX Weather and CiberCuba. Her father entered the water to help and was later found underwater and brought back to shore, sources reported.
A man who tried to help, described as a Good Samaritan, was also hospitalized, according to WSVN and city officials. Public Information Officer Frank Guzman said the three were transported to Broward Health Medical Center and that he did not yet have an update on their conditions. Officials said at least one adult suffered life-threatening injuries. No confirmed fatalities have been reported in the coverage provided.
The incident unfolded after lifeguards had just ended their shift, though some Ocean Rescue lieutenants were still on scene and responded, according to news reports. Officials also said rip current conditions were elevated and dangerous along the Atlantic coast of South Florida at the time. Fort Lauderdale Ocean Rescue and fire officials urged swimmers not to fight a rip current, to remain calm, and to swim parallel to the shoreline before angling back toward shore.
Dispatch records show prior incidents at this address, including a structure fire on May 15, 2026, and two other calls on May 13, 2026.
What happens next will depend on updates from Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue and hospital officials. At this point, reporting indicates this is an emergency medical rescue, not a criminal case, and no suspect information has been reported.
Day.News will continue to update this story as officials release more information.
