Fort Lauderdale Apartment Fire: What We Know So Far
A fire at the Tennis Club Apartments in Fort Lauderdale sent flames and smoke into the air Tuesday evening, but officials say no one was hurt and the blaze was brought under control before midnight. Here is what we know so far.
According to NBC Miami, the fire broke out around 7:20 p.m. and was visible for blocks before crews got it under control. Firefighters found heavy smoke and active fire when they arrived at the 24-unit building.
Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue Chief Steve Gollan said crews evacuated the building and contained the fire to a storage area after about 45 minutes of firefighting. Gollan said no one was injured, no homes were damaged and no one was displaced.
Residents were allowed back into their units before midnight after crews controlled the blaze, according to NBC Miami.
The response centered on Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue, and the scale of the call suggests crews were dealing with a working structure fire rather than a routine alarm. Available coverage did not report any road closures or traffic impacts.
Dispatch records show 593 similar structure fire incidents in Fort Lauderdale over the past six months.
Investigators were still working to determine what started the fire, and no cause, suspect information or arrest had been reported in the available coverage.
Day.News will continue to update this story as officials release more information.
