Fort Lauderdale Apartment Fire: What We Know So Far
Two people were rescued and one was taken to the hospital after a fire at an apartment building in Fort Lauderdale, and officials say the cause is still under investigation.
According to Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue, crews responded to a fire in the electrical room of an apartment building along the 1300 block of NE 5th Terrace just before 5:30 p.m. CBS News Miami reported that two people were rescued from the Fort Lauderdale home after a massive fire.
A separate local TV report said two people were inside the home when the fire broke out and both got out safely. That report also said one person was transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation, and no firefighters were injured while battling the blaze. Officials said the cause had not yet been determined.
Fire officials’ response indicates crews were dealing with a working structure fire involving an interior room, which typically brings a larger emergency response than a routine alarm. Available reporting does not list the full number of units, but it does show Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue was on scene and managing the incident.
Dispatch records show prior structure fires at this address on May 25, 2026, and twice on May 13, 2026.
The fire remains under investigation, and officials have not released any suspect information. More information is expected if investigators determine what sparked the blaze or if additional injuries are confirmed.
Day.News will continue to update this story as officials release more information.
