Former US Attorney Sues Government Over Dismissal

WASHINGTON – A U.S. attorney for Washington state, Roger Rogoff, has initiated a lawsuit against the government, challenging his dismissal by the Trump administration. Rogoff received notification of his termination via email shortly after a panel of judges unanimously selected him for the position and he completed his swearing-in ceremony.

Rogoff's lawsuit focuses on the legal parameters of a president's power to appoint and remove judicial officials. He joins Justice correspondent Ali Rogin to discuss the specifics of his case and the broader implications of his dismissal.

The lawsuit asserts that the administration's actions violated established protocols for removing U.S. attorneys. Rogoff's legal team argues that his immediate dismissal, following unanimous judicial selection, represents an overreach of executive authority.
