A Flydubai flight en route to Dubai diverted to Kuwait following an onboard incident. Authorities are investigating after a pilot was injured in the cockpit.
A Flydubai flight from Kazakhstan to Dubai diverted to Kuwait International Airport on Tuesday, following an incident in the aircraft's cockpit. Authorities confirmed the flight landed safely after a pilot sustained injuries.
Flight FZ 1720, originating from Almaty, Kazakhstan, was approximately three hours into its journey when the incident occurred. Reports indicated a pilot, identified as Captain David Bluvstein, received injuries from a small knife.
Air traffic controllers in Kuwait received a distress call from the flight crew. The captain communicated that a crew member had attacked him inside the cockpit. The aircraft then descended thousands of feet before the crew regained control and stabilized its altitude.
Upon landing in Kuwait, paramedics transported the injured pilot to a local hospital for treatment. Law enforcement officials took the alleged assailant, a fellow pilot, into custody at the airport. Kuwaiti authorities are conducting an investigation into the incident.
Flydubai released a statement confirming the flight diversion and the injury to a crew member. The airline did not provide further details regarding the nature of the incident, citing an ongoing investigation. Passengers disembarked in Kuwait and subsequently boarded a different aircraft to complete their travel to Dubai.
