Florida officials issue heat advisories, wildfire warnings as dry conditions elevate fire risk

State and local officials have issued heat advisories and wildfire warnings across several Florida counties after weeks of hot, dry conditions elevated fire danger, prompting public safety alerts for residents.

Fire crews are monitoring multiple brush fires throughout the affected areas, according to officials. Authorities are urging residents to limit outdoor burning activities as the prolonged dry spell has created conditions conducive to rapid fire spread.

The advisories come as Florida experiences an extended period of high temperatures and below-normal rainfall, creating tinderbox conditions in vegetation across multiple counties. Officials did not specify which counties are under advisory.

State and local officials are asking residents to take precautions during the heat event, including staying hydrated and checking on vulnerable neighbors who may be at greater risk during extreme heat conditions. Elderly residents, young children, and those with chronic health conditions face heightened danger during prolonged heat exposure.

The state has also advanced changes to SNAP eligibility rules set to take effect in 2026, which will reshape safety-net access for low-income residents.

On other public safety matters, Florida's attorney general has issued criminal subpoenas to gaming platform Roblox over allegations the company is not adequately preventing child predators from targeting children, escalating an investigation into technology companies' child safety practices.

Local governments have also been active on policy matters. Winter Park has advanced ordinances to limit protests at public facilities including libraries and event centers, part of ongoing debates over speech and public space usage.

The heat and wildfire advisories remain in effect as officials continue monitoring weather conditions. Residents in affected areas are being told to follow local emergency management guidance and avoid activities that could spark fires during the elevated risk period.

Officials emphasized the importance of community vigilance during the advisory period, particularly in checking on neighbors who may need assistance during extreme heat.
