Fort Pierce Maintains Flood Insurance Discounts
The City of Fort Pierce Building Department submitted its annual recertification to the National Flood Insurance Program's Community Rating System, maintaining the city's Class 6 rating and keeping flood insurance discounts in place for residents.
The rating qualifies homeowners in federally designated Special Flood Hazard Areas for up to a 20 percent discount on premiums. Those outside these zones may qualify for a 10 percent discount.
"This recertification helps the City maintain a Class 6 rating so our residents can continue benefiting from flood insurance rate reductions," said Paul Thomas, the city's Building Director and Floodplain Administrator.
The Community Rating System, administered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, rewards communities that exceed minimum flood insurance requirements. Fort Pierce earns credits through floodplain management practices, public outreach, and flood protection activities.
Nearly 1,300 communities nationwide participate in the program, benefiting roughly 5 million policyholders.
Residents can review the city's annual CRS Project Status Report at the Building Department, 300 Orange Avenue, 3rd Floor, or online. The city's flood mapping page shows whether a property lies within a Special Flood Hazard Area.
