Fighting The Monster Under The Bed

Lakeland residents are invited to a special community workshop next Tuesday, April 15, aimed at equipping parents and children with strategies to overcome common childhood fears. The event, titled "Fighting The Monster Under The Bed," will be held at the Lakeland Community Center on Main Street in the heart of historic downtown Lakeland from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM.

Organized by the Lakeland Family Services Department, the workshop will feature local child development specialist, Dr. Eleanor Vance. Dr. Vance, known for her work with families at the Lakeland Pediatric Clinic, will discuss age-appropriate techniques for addressing anxieties such as fear of the dark, separation anxiety, and nightmares. Her presentation will include practical tips for parents on how to create a supportive environment and empower children to face their fears.

"Childhood fears are a normal part of development, but they can be distressing for both children and parents," stated Dr. Vance in a press release from the Family Services Department. "This workshop is designed to provide our community with tools and understanding to navigate these challenges effectively, turning potential 'monsters' into manageable worries."

The interactive session will also include a Q&A segment, allowing attendees to ask specific questions. Light refreshments will be served, and informational handouts will be available. The Lakeland Community Center's multi-purpose room is fully accessible.

This initiative is part of the Family Services Department's ongoing commitment to supporting the well-being of Lakeland's youth and families. There is no cost to attend, but the department encourages early registration to ensure adequate seating and materials. Residents can sign up by calling the Lakeland Community Center at 555-1234 or by visiting their front desk during business hours.
