Fighting The Monster Under The Bed
Lakeland residents are invited to a special community workshop designed to empower children and families in overcoming common childhood fears. Titled "Fighting The Monster Under The Bed," the event aims to provide practical strategies and a supportive environment for addressing anxieties that often affect young children.
The workshop, organized by the Lakeland Community Outreach Center, will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Lakeland Public Library's main auditorium. It is free and open to all families with young children, though pre-registration is encouraged due to limited seating.
According to Sarah Jenkins, Director of the Lakeland Community Outreach Center, the initiative grew from conversations with local parents and educators. "We noticed a recurring theme of children struggling with fears, whether it's the dark, new situations, or imaginary 'monsters,'" Jenkins stated. "This workshop is about giving parents tools and children confidence to tackle these feelings head-on, turning fear into a manageable challenge."
The session will feature interactive activities, storytelling, and a Q&A segment with local child development specialists. Topics will include understanding the roots of childhood fears, creating comforting routines, and fostering open communication between children and parents. Each child attending will also receive a special "Fear Fighter" kit, complete with a nightlight and a storybook designed to help ease nighttime anxieties.
The Lakeland Public Library, located at 100 Main Street in the heart of historic downtown Lakeland, is a central and accessible venue for this important community gathering. Families interested in attending can register by calling the Lakeland Community Outreach Center at 555-1234 or by visiting their office at 25 Oak Avenue during business hours. Walk-ins will be accommodated if space permits, but early registration is highly recommended to ensure participation and to help organizers plan for materials.
This event underscores Lakeland's commitment to supporting the well-being of its youngest residents and providing resources for families to thrive. It’s an opportunity for parents to connect, share experiences, and learn effective ways to help their children navigate the sometimes-scary world around them.
