Fauci Invokes Fifth Amendment in Senate Hearing on COVID-19 Origins

WASHINGTON – Dr. Anthony Fauci, former Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), invoked his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination during a Republican-led Senate committee hearing on Wednesday. He declined to answer multiple questions posed by senators concerning his role in the COVID-19 pandemic response and its origins.

The hearing centered on inquiries from committee members regarding Dr. Fauci's tenure and decision-making processes during the global health crisis. Senators directed dozens of questions toward him during the proceedings.

Dr. Fauci, who served as NIAID director for 38 years and as chief medical advisor to seven U.S. presidents, retired from government service in December 2022. He previously testified before congressional committees on multiple occasions regarding the pandemic.
