Fatal Fires Prompt Re-Recall of 429K Casely Power Banks

National Desk
May 2, 2026
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Brooklyn, New York-based Casely reannounced on April 16, 2026, a recall of about 429,200 Casely Power Pods 5000mAh portable MagSafe wireless phone chargers, model E33A. First recalled in April 2025 after 51 reports of overheating, swelling or fires causing six minor burns, the devices drew 28 more complaints post-recall, including severe outcomes.[1][2][3] Tragedy struck in August 2024 when a 75-year-old New Jersey woman charged her phone with the power bank on her lap. It ignited and exploded, inflicting second- and third-degree burns that led to her death from complications. Just months ago, in February 2026, a 47-year-old woman suffered first-degree burns aboard an airplane after her charger caught fire and exploded while powering her device.[1][3] The sleek chargers, marked with 'Casely' engraved on the front right plate and model E33A on the back, sold online at getcasely.com, Amazon.com and other sites from March 2022 to September 2024 for $30 to $70. Casely urges immediate cessation of use, warning of fire and burn risks from the faulty lithium-ion batteries.[1][2] To claim a free replacement, consumers must submit two photos online at https://www.getcasely.com/pages/2025-recall: one of the front with 'Recalled' and the date in permanent marker, the other showing the back model number. Devices must be disposed of per local hazardous waste rules, not in regular trash. Contact Casely at 888-964-9331 or [email protected].[1][3] Federal law bans selling recalled products. This reannouncement underscores persistent safety lapses in consumer electronics, especially lithium-ion batteries prone to thermal runaway.[1][2]
