Fatal Fires Force Second Recall of 429K Casely Power Banks

National Desk
April 21, 2026
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Brooklyn, New York-based Casely reannounced a recall on April 16, 2026, for about 429,200 Casely Power Pods 5000mAh portable MagSafe wireless phone chargers, model E33A. The units, marked with 'Casely' engraved on the front right side and 'E33A' on the back, were sold online at getcasely.com, Amazon.com and other e-commerce sites from March 2022 through September 2024 for $30 to $70.[1][2] This marks the second recall for the product, first issued in April 2025 after Casely received 51 reports of the lithium-ion batteries overheating, swelling or igniting during phone charging, resulting in six minor burn injuries. Since then, 28 more incidents have surfaced, escalating the hazards to include one fatality and a mid-flight fire.[2][3] In August 2024, a 75-year-old woman from New Jersey suffered second- and third-degree burns when the power bank on her lap caught fire and exploded while charging her phone; she later died from complications. In February 2026, a 47-year-old woman endured first-degree burns after her unit ignited and exploded on an airplane during phone charging.[1][2] Consumers must immediately stop using the power banks, which can overheat and pose risks of serious injury or death from fire and burns. To obtain a free replacement or $60 Casely gift card, visit getcasely.com/pages/2025-recall, submit two photos—one of the front marked 'Recalled' with the date in permanent marker, and one showing the model number—and dispose of units at local household hazardous waste centers per regulations.[2][3] Federal law bans selling recalled products. Casely can be reached toll-free at 888-964-9331 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET weekdays or via email at [email protected]. Incidents can be reported to CPSC at SaferProducts.gov or its hotline.[2]
