Fargo Cops Nab One Suspect in Deadly Downtown Shootings, Hunt Continues
National Desk
May 3, 2026
Fargo police responded to chaos in the early hours of Sunday, May 3, 2026, after gunfire erupted in two separate incidents tied to an ongoing feud between rival groups. At about 1:56 a.m., officers rushed to the 50 block of Broadway North in downtown Fargo, where they found three adults shot outside District 64 bar, including 19-year-old Azeem Holmes of Fargo, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Two others suffered gunshot wounds, one critically, in the melee that turned the bustling entertainment district into a crime scene.[1][3]
Just 30 minutes later, another shooting claimed the life of 19-year-old Elijah Hughes on the 4700 block of 16th Avenue South at a south Fargo apartment complex. Caundre Douglas, located in Jamestown, North Dakota, was arrested at 12:20 p.m. Tuesday and booked into Cass County Jail on murder charges. Evidence also links him to prior shootings on July 22 and July 6, with authorities pursuing charges in all cases, Fargo Police Capt. Bill Ahlfeldt said at a news conference.[2][3]
Meanwhile, 19-year-old Tyrque Jones of Fargo is the prime suspect in Holmes' death and remains on the run, considered armed and dangerous. Police Chief Dave Zibolski urged the public not to approach Jones, who has not been formally charged.
