Extreme Storm Surge Warning for Coastal Jefferson: Evacuate Immediately
Coastal Jefferson is under an Extreme Storm Surge Warning with life-threatening inundation possible; flood and tornado watches are also in effect, requiring immediate action and continued shelter.
Coastal Jefferson residents are under an Extreme Storm Surge Warning issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL, effective immediately until 10:15 AM UTC on October 10. Life-threatening storm surge with potential inundation of 2-4 feet above ground is possible, particularly around high tide.
Flood preparations and ordered evacuations should be complete. Evacuees are urged to be in shelters well away from storm surge flooding. All residents in affected areas should remain sheltered in a safe location and not venture outside. Potential impacts from the main surge event are currently unfolding.
In addition to storm surge, a Flood Watch is in effect, with an additional 1-3 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. This could lead to major flooding, prompting evacuations and rescues. A Tornado Watch is also active, with conditions favorable for several tornadoes. Residents should be prepared to shelter quickly if a tornado warning is issued.
For local weather conditions, visit NWS Tallahassee. Additional information is available from the Florida Division of Emergency Management and Jefferson County Emergency Management.
