Everglades Brush Fire: What We Know So Far
A brush fire near North Krome Avenue and Northwest 186th Street in the Broward County-Miami-Dade Everglades area drew a multi-agency response Sunday evening, and this is what officials and news reports have confirmed so far.
According to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, crews received reports of a brush fire in the area and warned that smoke was creating low visibility nearby. NBC Miami and WPBF reported that Broward Sheriff's Office fire units, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue and the Florida Forest Service were all involved in suppression efforts.
Coverage from those outlets said the fire was pushing heavy smoke into the area, with visibility reduced on surrounding roads. No confirmed evacuation orders were reported, and no major road closure had been officially identified in the available reporting, though smoke-related travel impacts were noted.
Officials did not identify any injuries or fatalities in the reporting reviewed, and no cause, suspect information or arson allegation had been confirmed.
The response reflected an active wildfire suppression posture, with state forestry crews and local fire agencies working the fire on the ground. Florida Forest Service and other responders were described as actively engaged in containment efforts.
There is also recent wildfire history in the same broader Everglades area. Trackers from Florida Today and the Palm Beach Post reported a related wildfire in the Broward-Miami-Dade Everglades earlier this month that burned thousands of acres.
Dispatch records show prior incidents at this location on May 23, including two other calls and a fall injury, though those entries are separate from this brush fire.
What happens next will likely depend on whether fire officials issue an update on containment, acreage and any travel impacts. No public investigative findings had been released in the reporting reviewed.
Day.News will continue to update this story as officials release more information.
