ECPI Student Veterans Advocate on Capitol Hill
Five student veterans from ECPI University campuses in Manassas, Newport News, and Virginia Beach traveled to Washington, D.C., this week for Hill Day, an annual advocacy event organized by Career Education Colleges and Universities.
The students met with members of Congress and their staff to discuss GI Bill benefits, education policy, and challenges balancing family life with college. Jenn, one of the participants, met with Congresswoman Jen Kiggans. "To have our voices heard at that level, advocating for Student Veterans, means everything," Jenn said.
The group also met with Representative Jack Bergman, a retired three-star Marine Corps lieutenant general.
Nate, another participant, said the trip strengthened his sense of community with veterans across all military branches. ECPI recently launched the SVA Online Chapter, led by student CJ King, to expand veteran support to online learners.
