A 7.1 magnitude earthquake hit Japan's southern main island of Kyushu late Tuesday afternoon local time. The tremor caused damage to infrastructure and resulted in various injuries.

Local authorities reported that some individuals became trapped inside a collapsed shopping center following the earthquake. The incident occurred in Kashima, Kumamoto prefecture, according to aerial images distributed by Kyodo News.
