DEP Issues Fish Warnings for PFAS-Tainted Chester County Rivers
National Desk
April 28, 2026
The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has warned of elevated per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, known as PFAS or 'forever chemicals,' in rivers across Pennsylvania's Coastal Zone, with concentrations increasing from Morrisville to Chester in southeastern Pennsylvania. A Delaware River Basin Commission report found PFAS in all 17 water samples, 8 fish samples and 15 of 17 sediment samples from the region, highlighting widespread contamination that threatens ecosystems and human health through fish consumption.[1] DEP urges limited intake from affected waters near Chester County, where downstream flows carry higher levels into populated areas.[1]
