Drivers in Boone, De Kalb, Kendall, Grundy, Kankakee, Iroquois, Central Cook, Southern Cook, Northern Will, Southern Will, Eastern Will, Lake, Porter, Newton, Jasper, and Benton counties are advised to exercise extreme caution this morning due to areas of fog, including patches of locally dense fog.
The National Weather Service (NWS) Chicago IL issued a Special Weather Statement at 7:14 AM CDT, effective until 9:30 AM CDT today, September 29, 2026. Motorists should anticipate rapid changes in visibility over short distances, with some areas experiencing visibility reduced to one quarter mile or less, particularly during the morning commute.
If you encounter dense fog while driving, the NWS urges you to increase your following distance, slow down, and use your low beam headlights. These precautions are crucial for ensuring safety on the roads during this period of reduced visibility.
