Norinsberg Interviewed on Race Discrimination Lawsuit Against Delta

Weston residents may be interested to learn that Joseph & Norinsberg, a prominent South Florida law firm, was recently interviewed regarding an active lawsuit against Delta Airlines. The firm is representing victims who allege racial discrimination on a recent Delta flight, an incident that highlights broader concerns about bias in air travel.

The lawsuit centers on an incident involving Teresa Hudson Jordan and her 15-year-old daughter, who were removed from Delta Flight 5792 in March. The flight was a routine journey from Lexington, Kentucky, to New York City. According to the legal team, the ordeal began when Ms. Jordan, seated in first class, inadvertently made eye contact with a flight attendant during boarding. The attendant, identified only as “Stephanie,” reportedly confronted Ms. Jordan, yelling, “Don’t look at me like that. Don’t eye me up and down. If you can’t comply with my demands then I’ll turn this plane around and we can go back to the gate.”

Ms. Jordan stated she immediately confirmed her compliance with the flight attendant's demands, even reiterating it multiple times for other passengers to hear. Despite her attempts to de-escalate, the flight attendant reportedly continued yelling. Ms. Jordan and her daughter were ultimately removed from the flight after Stephanie allegedly reported to the captain that Ms. Jordan had been disruptive and refused to comply.

Jon Norinsberg of Joseph & Norinsberg emphasized the severe impact of the incident, noting that Ms. Jordan's daughter has been undergoing therapy for five months since the event. “We are going to hold these people’s feet to the fire, and we’re going to make sure that at the end of the day, they are held accountable,” Norinsberg stated.

The lawsuit includes several key allegations against Delta Airlines:

  • Racial Discrimination: The Jordans claim the flight attendant’s behavior was racially motivated, asserting that Ms. Jordan’s simple response of “I comply” did not warrant the aggressive reaction.
  • Intentional Infliction of Emotional Distress: The family experienced significant emotional harm and public humiliation due to the incident.
  • Assault: The forced removal from the flight, in front of other passengers, is also cited as a claim.

The family's account is supported by four independent passengers who witnessed the altercation. Their testimonies reportedly contradict the flight attendant’s version of events. One eyewitness even compared the treatment of Ms. Jordan to being “treated like a dog or a slave.”

This case brings to light the ongoing issue of racial bias in public spaces, particularly within air travel, a phenomenon often referred to as “flying while Black.” It serves as a stark reminder that discrimination remains a painful reality for many travelers, even in 2025, including families in diverse Broward County neighborhoods like Bonaventure.

Teresa Hudson Jordan initially hesitated to pursue legal action but felt compelled to sue after Delta Airlines allegedly failed to respond appropriately to her complaints. The lawsuit seeks not only personal justice for the family but also aims to hold Delta accountable and potentially drive significant change within the airline industry. The hope is that this case could lead to stronger policies, enhanced training programs, and greater accountability for airline staff, fostering a more inclusive and respectful experience for all passengers.

As this case progresses, it will be closely watched for its potential implications for airline policies and passenger rights. Further details will be reported as they become available.
