Davie Tanker Crash and Fire: What We Know So Far

A tanker truck fire on westbound I-595 in Davie sent one driver to the hospital and shut down the highway for hours, and this is what we know so far.

According to WSVN, the tanker driver was taken to Broward Health Medical Center with minor burns and was expected to be okay, though other reports said the driver was in his 30s, suffered severe burns and was listed in critical condition, leaving the extent of the injuries unclear.

Local reporting and Davie police social media say the fire involved a collision between a fuel tanker and a bus near Flamingo Road and Pine Island Road, where heavy smoke and flames were visible from the scene. Officials said the tanker was traveling west when it swerved, went on its side and caught fire, according to WSVN’s report of statements from responders.

Davie police posted that “THE WHOLE AREA IS SHUTDOWN DUE TO A TANKER FIRE,” and officers urged drivers to avoid westbound I-595 and State Route 84 between Pine Island Road and Southwest 136th Avenue. Traffic was diverted from Pine Island Road to Southwest 136th Avenue/SR-84 while westbound I-595 remained closed for much of the day.

Hazardous materials teams and multiple agencies responded, and crews used foam to extinguish the fire, according to reports from the scene and city statements. Florida Highway Patrol said it is investigating the circumstances of the crash, and officials said the road reopened only after the scene was cleared and debris removed.

Dispatch records show prior incidents at this address, including a vehicle fire on June 9 and other calls on June 3, though no connection to this crash has been reported.[ ]
