Davie House Fire Leaves One Dead: What We Know So Far
A residence fire in Davie killed a 73-year-old man who was living in a detached structure on the property, according to NBC Miami. This is what we know so far.
Davie Fire Rescue said crews responded to a report of a residence fire with someone possibly trapped inside, according to NBC Miami. Firefighters quickly knocked down the flames, but authorities said there appears to be one fatality linked to the incident.
The structure sustained heavy damage, and aerial images showed a charred roof and walls, according to NBC Miami. A separate CBS Miami report said a Hollywood building fire was extinguished with no injuries reported and that the cause was under investigation.
Davie police, Davie Fire Rescue, the Life Safety Division Fire Investigator and the State Fire Marshal were requested to help investigate the fire, according to NBC Miami. No confirmed cause has been released.
The response drew multiple agencies, including fire investigators and the State Fire Marshal, which indicates officials are treating this as a serious fire death investigation rather than a routine blaze. The initial report also described a possible victim inside, which typically prompts an aggressive rescue and search effort.
Dispatch records show 243 similar structure fire incidents in Davie over the past six months.
Officials have not said when they will release additional findings, but the investigation is ongoing and more information is expected as investigators examine the scene and interview witnesses.
Day.News will continue to update this story as officials release more information.
