Davie Gasoline Tanker Fire: What We Know So Far
A gasoline tanker driver was taken to the hospital with minor burns after a fiery crash on westbound I-595 in Davie, and officials say the cause is still under investigation. Here is what we know so far.
According to local coverage citing Florida Highway Patrol, the tanker was traveling westbound when it sideswiped a disabled and unoccupied Broward County Transit bus parked on the left shoulder, then struck the median wall and ignited. One person, the tanker driver, was transported to Broward Health Medical Center and was reported to be in stable condition or expected to recover. No other injuries were reported, and the bus driver was unharmed because the bus was unoccupied, according to the same reports.
Davie fire and police units responded and used foam to extinguish the flames, according to local reporting. The fire produced heavy smoke and led to major traffic disruption on westbound I-595, with lanes closed for several hours while crews worked the scene. Traffic was diverted to westbound State Road 84 at the Hiatus Road exit, and drivers were told to avoid the area between Pine Island Road and SW 136th Avenue.
Dispatch records show this location has had prior incidents, including a major accident on June 1, 2026, plus additional responses on May 28 and May 27.[dispatch records show]
Florida Highway Patrol is handling the investigation, and officials have not yet determined what caused the crash, according to local outlets quoting FHP and Davie authorities. Westbound lanes reopened later the same evening after crews cleared the scene.
