Davie Fire: 73-Year-Old Dies in Detached Structure Blaze
A fire in the Davie/Hollywood area left one man dead, and officials say the blaze is now under active investigation. This is what we know so far.
According to NBC Miami, a 73-year-old man died in the fire, which involved a separate detached structure on the property where he was living. Davie Fire Rescue said crews quickly knocked down the flames after arriving on scene, but there appears to have been one fatality associated with the incident.
Officials said responders were initially sent to a report of a residence on fire with someone possibly trapped inside. No injuries to firefighters or any other civilians were reported in the available coverage beyond the confirmed death, and the cause had not been determined.
Davie Fire Rescue requested help from Davie police, Davie Fire Rescue, the Life Safety Division Fire Investigator and the State Fire Marshal, according to NBC Miami. Authorities said the State Fire Marshal and local investigators were asked to assist with the investigation.
There were no specific road closures or traffic impacts reported in the available coverage.
Dispatch records show there have been 243 similar structure fire incidents in Davie in the past six months. That context suggests fire crews in the area have handled repeated structural fire responses, though officials have not said whether this case is connected to any prior incidents.
The fire remains under active investigation by local authorities and the State Fire Marshal. Officials have not released a cause, and more updates are expected as investigators continue their work.
Day.News will continue to update this story as officials release more information.
