Davie Brush Fire Update: Smoke Monitoring Underway After Everglades Blazes
Brush fires burning in the Everglades west of Broward County are being actively monitored by Davie Fire Rescue, and officials say there are no immediate threats to the Town of Davie or the Town of Southwest Ranches, according to the Town of Davie.
Residents in the area may still see smoke depending on wind direction and weather conditions, officials said. No injuries or fatalities have been confirmed in the coverage reviewed, and no cause or suspect information has been released.
Davie Fire Rescue said it is monitoring the fires while a separate Broward brush fire near U.S. 27 and Griffin Road grew to about 120 acres by 9 p.m., according to the Florida Forest Service wildfire tracking system. CBS News Miami reported that Davie Fire Rescue, the Florida Forest Service and Broward Sheriff's Office Fire Rescue were on scene and working to bring that fire under control.
The response reflects a multi-agency effort typically used when a brush fire spreads beyond a single department's initial attack area, with state forestry and sheriff's fire rescue crews joining local firefighters to contain the flames.
Dispatch records show 13 similar brush fire incidents in Davie over the past six months.
No road closures were reported in the Davie coverage, and officials have not announced a public investigation status or a determination of the fire's origin.
Day.News will continue to update this story as officials release more information.
