Dania Beach Apartment Fire Death: What We Know So Far
A fire at an apartment building on West Dixie Highway in Dania Beach left one adult dead early Wednesday, and this is what we know so far.
According to a Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue battalion chief interview on YouTube, crews were called to the fire at 4:13 a.m. at 2609 W. Dixie Hwy., near Phippen Waiters Road. Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke coming from both the front and rear of the structure.
Officials said crews made a quick attack and extinguished the blaze in about 10 minutes. After the fire was knocked down, firefighters found an adult victim deceased in the back of the apartment, according to Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue.
No other injuries or casualties were reported, officials said. The victim’s name and gender were not released pending further investigation.
The response appears to have been handled as a serious working fire, with firefighters moving quickly to contain the flames before they spread further through the building. The brief suppression time suggests crews were able to get control before the fire extended beyond the immediate area, according to the department’s account.
Dispatch records show this address has had prior calls, including a structure fire on May 19 and two other incidents on May 9. Those earlier responses do not indicate whether they were related to Wednesday’s fire.
The cause of the fire has not been disclosed in the available reporting, and the investigation remains open. Officials have not said when additional details, including the victim’s identity, may be released.
Day.News will continue to update this story as officials release more information.
