Dangerous Beach Conditions Expected Through Tuesday Evening

Residents and visitors in Presque Isle, Alpena, Alcona, Iosco, and Arenac Counties are advised to stay out of the water due to a Beach Hazards Statement issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Gaylord MI.

The statement is effective immediately, beginning Monday, September 21 at 10:50 PM EDT, and remains in effect until Tuesday, September 22 at 8:00 PM EDT. Dangerous swimming conditions are expected, with high waves and rip currents. Waves are forecast to reach as high as 4 to 6 feet.

The NWS warns that a high swim risk means life-threatening waves and currents are anticipated. For safety, individuals are instructed to remain out of the water and to stay away from dangerous areas such as piers and breakwalls. This includes the entirety of Monday night and through Tuesday evening.
