Court Theophelia Flood Mitigation Project Nears Completion; Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony Set for Friday, September 18

The City of St. Augustine will celebrate the official completion of the Court Theophelia Flood Mitigation Project this Friday, September 18, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The project significantly improves the neighborhood's stormwater system, reducing standing water and managing runoff.

The ceremony will take place at 9:30 AM on Bannan Ave., between Court Theophelia and Court Louise Streets. The public is invited to attend and learn more about the project's impact on local drainage and flood protection.

This initiative, funded entirely by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Resilient Florida Program, represents a key investment in the city's ongoing efforts to enhance resilience against flooding. Chief Resilience Officer, Jessica Beach, expressed enthusiasm for the project's completion, noting its positive effect on residents.

The project features the city's first installation of a bioswale, a green stormwater infrastructure component. This bioswale captures and manages stormwater while also providing water-quality benefits. Educational panels have been installed to explain how the system works to the public.

Residents can attend the ceremony this Friday to see the improvements firsthand and understand the innovative solutions implemented in their community.
