CORNERSTONE LAID FOR HOLY ROSARY CHURCH
Jacksonville’s Holy Rosary Church officially broke ground on its new expansion project yesterday, April 7, 2026, with the laying of its cornerstone. The ceremony, attended by parishioners, local dignitaries, and community members from across Duval County, marked a significant milestone for the growing congregation in Northeast Florida.
The new addition, located adjacent to the existing church building on Elm Street, will include a larger sanctuary, additional classroom space for religious education, and a new community hall. Father Michael O’Connell, pastor of Holy Rosary, presided over the cornerstone ceremony, emphasizing the church’s commitment to serving the spiritual and social needs of the Jacksonville community.
“This expansion is not just about bricks and mortar; it’s about building a stronger foundation for our faith and for the future of Jacksonville,” Father O’Connell stated during his address. “We are grateful for the unwavering support of our parishioners and the entire community.”
Construction on the new wing is anticipated to take approximately 18 months, with a projected completion date in late 2027. The project, which has been several years in the planning, is being funded through a combination of church savings, a capital campaign, and community donations. Local firm, Peterson Construction, a respected name in Duval County’s construction industry, has been awarded the contract for the build.
Upon completion, the expanded facilities are expected to accommodate a larger number of attendees for services and provide enhanced spaces for various church ministries and community outreach programs. Residents interested in learning more about the project or contributing to the capital campaign can contact the Holy Rosary Church office during business hours.
