St. Augustine City Commissioner Jim Springfield's Term for Seat Five to Conclude in December 2026

St. Augustine City Commissioner Jim Springfield will conclude his four-year term representing Seat Five in December 2026. Springfield, a familiar face in St. Johns County for decades, brought a deep background in education and community service to the commission.

Springfield's career in St. Johns County began in 1989 when he moved from Gainesville. He owned and operated Pete's On Vilano, a local Italian restaurant, while teaching Earth and Space Science at Nease High School. He also served as Chairperson of the School Advisory Committee at Nease.

He dedicated over 21 years to the St. Johns County School District in various administrative roles. His tenure included positions as Dean of Students at Allen D. Nease High School, Assistant Principal at R.J. Murray Middle School and Sebastian Middle School, Principal at Gamble Rogers Middle School, and Principal at Bartram Trail High School. He also served as Associate Superintendent for the district. In 1995, Springfield received recognition as Principal of the Year Florida District 5.

After retiring from the school district in 2011, Springfield joined Flagler College in 2017. There, he established the college's first Human Resources Department, serving as benefits coordinator and employee relations coordinator, and held a position on the President's Cabinet.

Beyond his professional roles, Springfield maintained extensive community involvement. He held leadership positions with the St. Augustine Historic Kiwanis Club, the United Way Board of Trustees, and served as President of the Gamble Roger Folk Festival. He also contributed to the Board of Directors for the St. Johns Education Foundation, the Florida Association of School Administrators (FASA), and was President of the Florida Section of the American Camping Association. Springfield also served on the Florida Education Negotiators (FEN) Board of Directors.

Springfield's personal interests include his role as a musician in the Hogtown Creek Band and as a DJ for WFCF Flagler College Radio. He also enjoys hiking, camping, fishing, video production, and book publishing.
