The state high school track and field championships held in Columbia drew record crowds, marking a milestone for South Carolina High School League competition. The unprecedented attendance underscores growing interest in track and field across the state, with spectators traveling from districts statewide to witness top-tier athletic performances.

South Carolina's track programs have seen significant investment and growth in recent years. Horry County Schools, for example, completed upgrades to rubberized track facilities across all nine high schools in the district, with the inaugural district track meet held at Loris High School in 2021 serving as a catalyst for these improvements. This district-wide commitment to athletic infrastructure has enhanced training environments statewide and contributed to the competitive landscape that drew record attendance to the state championships.

The meet featured standout individual performances across classifications. In girls competition, Sharmelle Holmes of Fairfield Central set recent state records in both the 100-meter dash (11.45 seconds) and 200-meter dash (23.57 seconds) in 2024. Among boys competitors, the AAAAA classification showcased elite sprinters including Nigel Ancrum of Spring Valley, who clocked 10.60 seconds in the 100-meter dash—approaching South Carolina's state meet record of 10.35 set by Marcus Rowland of Dorman High School in 2008.
