Coastal Flood Warning, High Surf, and Rip Current Risk for Eastern Currituck

Residents of Eastern Currituck County should take immediate action to protect flood-prone property. A Coastal Flood Warning, High Surf Advisory, and Beach Hazards Statement have been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Wakefield VA.

The Coastal Flood Warning is in effect until 4 AM EDT Friday, September 25th. Two to three feet of inundation above ground level is expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways. This will result in widespread flooding, an elevated threat of property damage, and road closures. If travel is required, do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth.

A High Surf Advisory is active until 6 PM EDT Thursday, September 24th, with large breaking waves of 8 to 12 feet in the surf zone. A high risk of rip currents is also in effect through Thursday evening. Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to dangerous surf and hazardous swimming conditions. Do not enter the water.
