Palmetto Bay Climate Action Plan Targets Flooding Crisis
Palmetto Bay adopted a Resilience Action Plan on July 7 to address flood risks from sea level rise, storm surge, and heavy rainfall.
The plan identifies which village facilities, infrastructure, roads, and neighborhoods face the greatest exposure to flooding. It also outlines specific projects and actions to reduce those risks.
A Steering Committee of local stakeholders and village staff developed the plan with input from residents and business owners. The committee identified critical assets vulnerable to compound flooding, which occurs when multiple water sources—ocean surge, rainfall, and groundwater—converge.
The plan emerged from the state's Resilient Florida Program, designed to help communities assess current and future flood hazards and plan adaptations.
