New Google Chrome Features Aim to Boost Security for Panama City Browsers

Panama City residents using Google Chrome on their desktops and mobile devices will soon notice new features designed to enhance online security and give users more control over their personal data. These updates are especially relevant for our coastal Bay County community, where users often browse local weather updates and community resources. Google is rolling out these updates to make web browsing safer and more personalized.

One significant enhancement is an upgraded Safety Check feature. This tool will now operate automatically in the background, alerting users to various security concerns. It will flag permissions granted to websites that are no longer visited, identify unwanted notifications, and highlight any security issues needing attention. Additionally, Safety Check will automatically block notifications from sites deemed suspicious by Google Safe Browsing.

For those browsing on desktop, Safety Check will also identify potentially risky installed extensions, guiding users to the extensions page to remove troublesome ones. Google states, “As always, Safety Check will keep you updated with the latest security patches and help check your passwords for potential risks.” Users will also have the option to choose their preferred level of protection with Google Safe Browsing.

Pixel device users are already benefiting from a new ‘Unsubscribe’ button directly in the notifications drawer, making it easier to stop annoying website notifications. This feature has reportedly reduced notification clutter by 35% on Pixel devices and is slated for release on more Android devices soon.

Another key update coming to both Android and desktop versions of Chrome allows users to control data sharing with websites more precisely. Users can now grant specific permissions to a website for a single visit. Once the user leaves the site, Chrome will automatically revoke those permissions, ensuring websites do not retain access when not desired.

Google emphasizes that these updates are part of their ongoing commitment to a safer browsing experience, giving users greater control over their internet exploration. Panama City residents can expect to see these changes implemented, leading to a more secure and controlled online environment, whether accessing historic downtown events or waterfront news.
