Chiefs GM Expects Active NFL Draft: Could Impact Future of Alabama Players?

National Desk
April 17, 2026
**Why it matters locally:** While the Kansas City Chiefs' draft strategy might seem distant, the predicted trade activity in the NFL draft's first round could indirectly impact Alabama football fans and, potentially, some Alabama players. Many Alabamians follow the NFL closely, and the draft is key in determining where college stars land. Any shifting in team needs or draft positions due to trades influences which players are selected where. This is especially relevant given the talent that routinely comes out of Alabama's universities; a busy trade night may dramatically alter the trajectory of former Crimson Tide or Auburn stars and indirectly which NFL teams those Alabamians are most interested in following. Any change to the draft board could have a material impact to the future play of these players. The NFL is the most popular professional sport in Alabama, so many residents follow the league, and draft news is particularly relevant. --- Kansas City, MO - Kansas City Chiefs General Manager Brett Veach anticipates significant trade activity during the first round of this year's National Football League draft. Veach addressed the media on Thursday, stating, "There will probably be a lot of trades" during the draft's opening round. His remarks suggest teams are poised to actively pursue opportunities to improve their draft positioning through trades with other organizations. The NFL Draft is scheduled to begin on April 25th. The Chiefs currently hold the 32nd overall pick.
