Celebrating Firefighter Bill Potter: Thank You for 18 Years of Service!
Pinellas County is celebrating the dedicated service of Firefighter Bill Potter, who is retiring after 18 years with the Pinellas County Fire Department. Potter, a familiar face to many residents, has been a cornerstone of the department, serving the community with unwavering commitment and bravery.
Known for his calm demeanor in high-pressure situations and his mentorship of younger firefighters, Potter has responded to countless emergencies across the county, from structure fires in downtown St. Petersburg to medical calls in Largo, coastal rescues near Clearwater Beach, and brush fires near Tarpon Springs. His colleagues often speak of his extensive knowledge of local geography and his ability to quickly assess and mitigate dangerous situations.
Throughout his career, Firefighter Potter has been instrumental in various community outreach programs, including fire safety education at local schools like Pinellas Park Elementary and participating in the annual 'Touch-A-Truck' event at Fort De Soto Park, where he delighted children with tours of fire engines. His dedication extended beyond emergency response, fostering a safer and more informed community.
While the department has not yet announced a formal retirement ceremony, many residents and fellow first responders are expected to offer their well wishes to Firefighter Potter in the coming weeks. His 18 years of service have left an indelible mark on Pinellas County, and he will be greatly missed by his colleagues and the community he so faithfully served.
