CDC Reports Flu Hospitalizations, Deaths Higher Among Younger Adults This Season
A Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report indicated that influenza affected younger adults more severely this season. The Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, released by the CDC, highlighted that individuals aged 18-64 accounted for an increased percentage of influenza-related hospitalizations.
Specifically, this age group represented 61% of all hospitalizations due to influenza. In the prior three seasons, the same demographic accounted for approximately 35% of such hospitalizations. The report also noted a similar trend in influenza-related deaths, with a higher-than-usual number occurring in the 18-64 age range.
