Burn Ban Effective April 1 in Citrus County

Staff Writer

Burn Ban Takes Effect in Unincorporated Citrus County

Unincorporated Citrus County, including parts of Lecanto, is under a burn ban effective April 1, 2026, after the Keetch-Byram Drought Index reached 502 on March 31.

Citrus County Fire Rescue imposed the ban under Chapter 46 of the Citrus County Code of Ordinances due to severe to extreme drought conditions and elevated wildfire risk. Vegetation across the county remains highly susceptible to ignition despite the possibility of rain in coming days.

Fire Rescue will monitor conditions closely. The ban lifts automatically once the KBDI stays below 500 for seven consecutive days. If conditions worsen, Fire Rescue may ask the Board to extend the ban.

Residents can find burn ban requirements on the Citrus County Fire Rescue website.
