Boise Fire Rages Through Idaho Youth Ranch Warehouse on Irving St.

National Desk
May 4, 2026
Boise Fire Department responded around 1:47 p.m. to a two-alarm blaze at the 5400 block of W. Irving St., between Orchard Street and Curtis Road on the Boise Bench. Firefighters from 13 engines, three ladder trucks, three command officers, one rehab unit, Ada County Paramedics and Boise Police contained the fire to the Idaho Youth Ranch outlet yard warehouse, which collapsed entirely.[1][2] The adjacent Idaho Youth Ranch building sustained damage, but direct care services were unaffected, with staff safely evacuated.[1][2] Idaho Youth Ranch CEO Scott Curtis reported the fire appeared to start outside near or in a carport container before rapidly spreading to the distribution center, destroying thrift goods, the yard and admin areas with accounting and IT functions.[2] Two firefighters were injured: one transported to a local hospital in stable condition, the other treated and released on scene.[1] No civilian injuries occurred in the industrial zone, where crews protected surrounding warehouses and businesses, coordinating evacuations with police.[1][2] Crews remained on scene through the night extinguishing hotspots, with Irving Street closed between Orchard and Curtis Road, and neighboring Emerald to Kendall streets also restricted.[1] Residents were warned to avoid toxic smoke from the blaze.[1] The cause is under investigation; witnesses should contact Ada County Dispatch at 208-377-6790 or Crime Stoppers at 208-343-COPS.[1]
