Blue Jays Edge Yankees 2-1 in Pitching Duel
The Toronto Blue Jays defeated the New York Yankees 2-1 on Wednesday. Trey Yesavage pitched seven innings for Toronto, allowing one run on four hits. He also recorded eight strikeouts.
Cam Schlittler of the Yankees also pitched seven innings, surrendering two runs on five hits, while striking out six. The Yankees' only run came in the fifth inning.
Offensively, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. went 2-for-4 for the Blue Jays. George Springer drove in the winning run with a single in the eighth inning. The Blue Jays' win pulls them within three games of the Yankees for the AL East lead and strengthens their position in the wild card race.
The two teams will complete the series next week in the Bronx.
