Blue Hens Reach CAA Championship Final With Victory Over Towson
Delaware's men's lacrosse program continued its winning tradition Saturday with a decisive 12-9 victory over Towson in a CAA tournament semifinal matchup at Delaware Stadium in Newark. The victory sends the Blue Hens to the conference championship game and represents the program's resilience following a transition year marked by significant conference changes.
The Blue Hens claimed back-to-back CAA Men's Lacrosse Championships in 2022 and 2023, with the 2023 title notably won at home, the first time the program captured the championship on its home field. Coach DeLuca has built a program culture that has produced consistent tournament success, establishing Delaware as a competitive force in regional lacrosse.
Saturday's semifinal win was particularly significant as it marked Delaware's first hosting of a CAA tournament game since 2005, when they fell to Towson in the championship game. The Blue Hens' home-field advantage at Delaware Stadium proved decisive in their path back to the conference final.
Delaware's success comes in a transitional year for the program. The University announced in November 2023 that it would leave the CAA for Conference USA beginning July 1, 2025, but since Conference USA does not sponsor lacrosse, Delaware instead joined the Atlantic 10 Conference as a lacrosse-only member beginning in 2026. In its inaugural Atlantic 10 season, the program earned seven postseason awards, signaling continued competitive excellence.
The Blue Hens will face the winner of the other CAA semifinal in the championship game, seeking to extend their recent dynasty and capture their third title in four years.
