Bitrus Kaze Appointed to Punta Gorda City Council
Punta Gorda welcomed a new face to its City Council yesterday, April 7, 2026, with the appointment of Bitrus Kaze. Kaze fills the vacant seat left by the recent resignation of Councilwoman Eleanor Vance, who stepped down last month due to personal reasons.
The appointment was made during a special City Council meeting held at City Hall on historic Taylor Street. Kaze, a long-time resident known for his involvement in various community initiatives, was selected from a pool of several qualified applicants. His term will run until the next municipal election, at which point the seat will be open for a public vote.
During the meeting, Mayor John Smith expressed confidence in Kaze's ability to contribute positively to the city's governance. "Bitrus has a deep understanding of Punta Gorda's needs and a proven track record of community service," Mayor Smith stated. "We look forward to his insights and dedication on the council."
Kaze, who resides in the historic district near Gilchrist Park, has previously served on the city's planning commission and has been an active volunteer with local youth sports programs. His first official City Council meeting is scheduled for next Tuesday, April 15, at 9:00 AM, where he is expected to be sworn in and begin his duties immediately.
