Birmingham Cops Nab Robbery Suspect After Five Points Standoff
National Desk
April 25, 2026
Birmingham authorities apprehended a 28-year-old suspect early Saturday in Five Points South, a popular nightlife hub known for its restaurants, bars and music venues along 20th Street South. The arrest came after a standoff reported by WVTM 13, capping a weeklong investigation into five armed robberies that rattled the neighborhood. Initially reported by ABC 33/40, the string of holdups targeted pedestrians and businesses, prompting heightened patrols in the area.[2][1]
The suspect, whose name has not been released pending formal charges, faces multiple counts of first-degree robbery, police confirmed. Five Points South, with its mix of historic charm and modern vibrancy, saw the crimes unfold between April 18 and April 24, 2026, according to preliminary reports. Victims described the robberies as brazen, often involving a handgun and occurring late at night when crowds thinned out after bar closings.[2]
This arrest aligns with broader Birmingham Police Department efforts to curb rising property crimes in Jefferson County. Earlier this week, officers nabbed Samuel Bolton, 32, for a robbery on 14th Avenue South, charging him with first-degree robbery, credit card fraud and illegal pistol possession; victim unharmed. Separately, Boubacar Diallo, 29, was caught at the scene of a Parkway East robbery with minor victim injuries, facing third-degree robbery charges. Both are held at Jefferson County Jail.[1]
Local leaders praised the swift action, noting Five Points South's role as an economic engine drawing thousands weekly. 'Safety is paramount for our visitors and residents,' said Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin in a statement. Police urge anyone with information on similar incidents to call the Crime Stoppers hotline at 205-254-7777.
