Barrasso Addresses White House Media Access Restrictions

WASHINGTON – Senator John Barrasso, a Republican from Wyoming, stated that a president banning media organizations from the White House does not violate the U.S. Constitution. Barrasso made the remarks following reports that President Trump restricted access for journalists from MS NOW, CNN, and Politico.

Barrasso, who serves as the Senate Majority Whip, also commented on the role of the press. He said, "the press has an obligation to report fairly."

The White House Correspondents' Association (WHCA) defines its mission as advocating for transparent and fair access to the president and the White House. The WHCA has previously voiced concerns over access issues and the treatment of journalists covering the presidency.

Historically, presidents have exercised varying degrees of control over which journalists receive press credentials and access to briefings and events. These decisions often draw scrutiny regarding press freedom and the public's right to information.
