Bardstown Bourbon Boom: Trail Visitors Hit 2.7M in 2025

BAR DSTOWN, Ky. — The Kentucky Bourbon Trail held firm at a record 2.7 million visitors in 2025, matching 2024's milestone amid declining attendance at other U.S. tourism sites, according to the Kentucky Distillers' Association.[1][3][6] The trail, now boasting nearly 70 destinations across 27 of Kentucky's 120 counties, added 11 to 15 new stops last year, including distillery experiences and urban tasting rooms from Western Kentucky to the amber triangle of Louisville, Lexington and Bardstown.[1][2][3][8] "Holding strong at 2.7 million visitors is a tremendous win in today’s tourism climate," said Eric Gregory, association president.[3]
Bardstown, the heart of bourbon country, saw heightened buzz with new distillery openings and bar additions in 2026, drawing crowds to taste craft spirits and tour expansive facilities.[5] The expansions build on the trail's 25-year legacy since 1999, when it started with a handful of sites and has since welcomed over 20 million visitors from all 50 states and more than 20 countries.[4][6] Colleen Thomas, association vice president of operations, noted the growth creates diverse experiences meeting every visitor's interests.[2]
The bourbon boom bolsters Kentucky's economy through agritourism, supporting jobs and communities in rural areas like Bardstown in Nelson County.[7] Visitors, mostly out-of-state, fuel local businesses from farm-to-table dining to lodging, with the trail's "Build Your Own Bourbon Trail" campaign encouraging customized itineraries.[8] As new Bardstown spots open, the industry eyes sustained growth into 2026.[5]
