Aurora Police Nab 20-Year-Old in 6 Gas Station Armed Robberies
National Desk
May 4, 2026
Aurora police arrested 20-year-old Ross Wner on Sunday following a months-long investigation into a string of armed robberies targeting gas station convenience stores in the city. The suspect, who police say struck the same Shell station near Tower Road and Hampton Avenue five times since July 2025, was booked into Arapahoe County Jail on charges of aggravated robbery and felony menacing with a firearm. Detectives connected him to an additional robbery at the 7-Eleven at the same intersection in February 2026, noting he rarely ventured far from the site.[1]
Surveillance footage from the Shell station showed Wner approaching the counter, displaying a handgun and leaping over it to grab merchandise including vapes, cigarettes and beer before fleeing. Police recovered some of the stolen items during a search of his residence after the arrest. The series of holdups heightened concerns in metro Denver's southeast suburbs, where convenience stores serve as vital late-night stops for residents along busy corridors like Tower Road.[1]
This arrest comes amid a spate of similar incidents across the Denver metro area, including a separate robbery at a Conoco gas station at 502 North Sheridan Boulevard on March 13, 2026, though no suspect connection has been confirmed in that case. Aurora authorities emphasized the role of public tips and repeated surveillance reviews in breaking the case. Wner remains in custody as prosecutors review evidence for potential additional charges.[1][2]
